Norman Blake, Teenage Fanclub: We were in Air Studios mixing our album SONGS FROM NORTHERN BRITAIN and one night we bumped into Liam downstairs. We’d met a few times before so after we exchanged how are you’s, he said, ‘Why don’t you come and hear some of our stuff?’ We went down to their studio, he cracked open loads of beers and then he started playing back the songs. Liam was really getting into it; he was singing at full throttle and playing air guitar. The minute one song finished he’d bang on another one, without any time for us to comment on the one we’d just heard! He was really excited, urging us to check out this guitar or listen to that bit. They’d hired this massive PA and he had it cranked up to full volume. It was a wild, wild night and he gave a great performance. We were all pretty astounded. He was really nice, a good host. Great fun. Before that night I wasn’t so sure he was a star but now I know he’s got what it takes.
